There were fast food shops in ancient Pompeii and Herculaneum. These businesses would have prepared soups, stews and meat at the back of the shop and put them in the containers set into the counter to keep warm.

Wine, beer, honey drinks and fruit juice were common drinks; water was never very clean, but mixing it with wine made it safer to drink.
