Stonefish have thirteen spines along their back. If a stonefish feels danger, its spines go up.

Below each spine are two sacs of venom. When something lands on the spine, it pushes the skin down, but the spine stays up. The skin around the spine pushes down on the venom sacs. Out shoots the venom.
